GRATIOT – A Monroe man and his juvenile passenger are dead after a pickup vs. semi crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office press release, at around 2 p.m. on Sept. 26, emergency authorities received a 9-1-1 called to the 8000 block of Wis. 11 east of Gratiot for a vehicle vs. semi crash between Komprood Road and County KK. It was reported that multiple subjects in the pickup truck were severely injured. Lafayette County Deputies, Gratiot Fire Department and First Responders, as well as multiple units from Green County EMS, were all dispatched.

Not long after, the Lafayette County Coroner was called. Jason Michael Richardson, 27, of Monroe, along with a juvenile female rear seat passenger were declared dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation of the crash revealed that a 2020 Freightliner Semi-truck and trailer owned by Swift Transportation Company, and driven by Kaled Hussein Omar, 30, of Clarksville, Indiana, was traveling westbound on Wis. 11. A 2016 Ford F150 being driven by Richardson was traveling eastbound on Wis. 11. Richardson crossed the center line into the westbound lane of traffic and into the path of the westbound semi tractor and trailer. The driver of the semi tractor trailer attempted to avoid the Ford F150 but was unable to avoid the collision.
After striking the semi tractor and trailer, the F150 struck and came to rest against the guardrail on the north side of Wis. 11. The semi tractor and trailer struck the guardrail on the north side of Wis. 11 when attempted to avoid the F150 before coming to a stop on the roadway.
The front seat passenger, Leane Elizabeth Richardson, 27, also of Monroe, was transported by ambulance to the Monroe Hospital with unknown extent of injuries.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Gratiot Fire and First Response, South Wayne Fire and First Response, Green County EMS, Paramount Ambulance Service, Warren (Ill.) EMS, Lafayette County Highway Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.
Wis. 11 was closed down and detoured for approximately five hours during the investigation and cleanup of the crash.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Team.
