UPDATE: 2 men die after Interstate 80 crash in Monroe County
The Monroe County Coroner’s Office has been called to a wreck involving three vehicles along Interstate 80 west in Tunkhannock Township.
A Monroe County 911 dispatch supervisor said the accident, involving three cars, occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. The accident is near mile marker 291.7 — between a mile west of Exit 293 / I-380 in North Scranton and Exit 284 / Route 115 in Blakeslee.
The coroner was called to the scene sometime after 1 p.m., the supervisor confirmed. The coroner’s office only responds to deaths.
The highway currently remains open with a lane restriction.
It’s unclear what led to the crash or the extent of any other injuries. A dispatcher with Pennsylvania State Police in Stroudsburg said the accident remained under active investigation and any additional information would be released at a later time.
The accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 in Tunkhannock Township.
