Two drivers were injured when a vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 75 in Plattsmouth over the weekend.
In a news release, the Cass County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened on Oct. 8 around 5:22 p.m. near Osage Ranch Road.
Deputies said Stephen Lako, 24, of Omaha, was northbound on Highway 75 and crossed the center line in a Toyota Yaris. The driver of a southbound Ford F-150 swerved to avoid the collision, but Lako crashed head-on into the Toyota Carolla traveling behind it.
Deputies said the driver of that vehicle, Bryan Dewilde, 19, of Omaha, pressed his brakes in an attempt to avoid crashing but was unsuccessful.
All three vehicles stopped at the scene.
Investigators said both Lako and Dewilde had to be pulled from their vehicles and both suffered serious injuries. Lako was flown to a hospital while Dewilde was transported by ambulance.
Deputies are investigating alcohol as a possible factor in the crash and said charges are pending.
