TRUMBULL — Police are investigating a deadly crash on White Plains Road Sunday afternoon, officials said.
In a release, Trumbull police Lt. Brian Weir said officers were called several times on Sunday at about 3:30 p.m. about a two-car accident on White Plains Road, also known as Route 127, near the entrance ramp to Route 25 south.
Weir said a convertible and a sedan collided, causing heavy damage to both vehicles, with the convertible coming to rest on its side. He said the only occupant of the sedan and one passenger of the convertible were transported to area hospitals, but the other occupant of the convertible sustained fatal injuries.
“First-responding Trumbull police officers rendered medical aid to the victims and secured the scene,” he said.
Weir said Trumbull EMS and Nelson Ambulance also arrived on scene, adding they transported the two victims to area hospitals. He said the Trumbull Center Fire Department also arrived to assist and secure the scene.
Weir said the Trumbull and Fairfield police departments have their traffic divisions investigating the incident.
“The cause of the accident and cause of death have not been determined at this time,” he said. “The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family
notification.”
As of 9 p.m. on Sunday, Weir said White Plains Road has reopened and traffic flow there has returned to normal.
