ITHACA, N.Y. — The New York State Police announced that a 17-year-old from Waverly has died after a crash involving three vehicles on West Danby Road in Newfield.
The crash took place just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. According to police, a Toyota Yaris and Jeep Patriot were traveling north on West Danby Road when the Patriot stopped for another vehicle making a turn. The Yaris collided with the back of the Patriot and continued into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Cadillac driven by a third person.
The driver of the Yaris, 18-year-old Dale Beeman of Spencer, was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital for “serious injuries,” according to police. The vehicle’s passenger, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw, of Waverly, was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.
The drivers of the Patriot and Cadillac were both treated on the scene for injuries but not taken to any local hospitals. It is unclear if any fault has been assigned for the crash or if any charges are being investigated, and The Ithaca Voice is awaiting more clarity from the police.
