The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has released the names of two passengers killed in a single-car accident in Teaneck early Saturday morning that resulted in vehicular homicide charges for the driver.
Rudy Rosales Escobar, 40, of Hasbrouck Heights, and Alexander Cosme Curruchich, 29, of Englewood, died in the accident on Teaneck Road near Bilton Street at about 2 a.m. Saturday, Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Tuesday morning.
Officers determined that a 2021 BMW M850i driven by Teddy Mejia, 32, of Teaneck left the roadway and struck a tree before overturning. The two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, and Mejia was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for his injuries.
Mejia was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and police recovered a suspected controlled dangerous substance during a search, the prosecutor said. Mejia was charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide while in violation of driving while intoxicated, and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
