GOODYEAR, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — One person is dead, multiple people are hurt and a suspect is in custody after two crashes and a carjacking in Goodyear on Tuesday night. Goodyear police say 47-year-old Shondale Kyles of Glendale is facing numerous charges.
It all started just before 9 p.m. when police responded to reports of shoplifting near Pebble Creek Parkway and McDowell Road. The witness gave police a license plate for the suspect’s vehicle. Police records soon revealed that the car had been stolen out of Phoenix.
Moments later, an officer spotted the vehicle speeding through a yellow light before running at least two other red lights. Ultimately, the suspect’s vehicle ran through the red light at Indian School and Litchfield Road when it crashed into another vehicle and rolled over. Police say that one of the two suspects inside the car, later identified as 35-year-old Vanessa Flor-Garcia, was thrown out of the vehicle and was critically injured. Flor-Garcia later died at a nearby hospital from her injuries.
The driver, identified as Kyles, ran from the stolen vehicle and allegedly carjacked another vehicle when police said he crashed again. Ultimately, Kyles was taken into custody and transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was later booked into the Maricopa County jail.
