Police are investigating the cause of a crash in Modesto that killed a man and sent another to the hospital on Saturday morning.

The Modesto Police Department said that shortly after midnight a vehicle struck a light pole at the intersection of Pelandale Avenue and Carver Road.
The driver, a Modesto man, died at the scene and the passenger, a man from Fresno, was transported to a hospital for moderate injuries.
According to police, no other vehicles were involved and it is unknown what led to the crash.
Police said that the vehicle was a Tesla Model Y and due to the hazard caused by the car batteries, the road is currently closed.
