HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — Police are investigating after a person was killed in a crash involving three semis and another truck on Interstate 70 in Hancock County early Saturday.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Aug. 18, deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department responded to a minor crash near the 98 mile marker along I-70 westbound, about two miles east of the Mt. Comfort Road exit. The crash resulted from a car with a flat tire that was stopped in the right lane, causing a backup.
Before a wrecker was able to reach the car, another crash involving the semis and a pickup truck happened just west of the 100 mile marker.
During the crash, one of the trucks rear-ended another, trapping the driver, according to the sheriff’s department.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

All drivers in the crash were out-of-state, commercial drivers.
“The two drivers who survived cooperated with law enforcement and submitted to routine blood test for drug and alcohol,” the sheriff’s department said, noting that dugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor.
