ST. LOUIS — One woman died and several others were injured in a five-vehicle crash in north St. Louis Friday afternoon.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Friday at the intersection of North Broadway and Humboldt Avenue in north St. Louis. Police on the scene said the driver who allegedly caused the crash was speeding.
Witnesses and accident reconstruction investigators said the suspect sped down North Broadway in a Nissan, tried to avoid traffic, ran a red light and hit a car head-on. The impact caused a “chain reaction” crash.
According to the St. Louis Fire Department, one person was extricated from a car. Two people were in critical condition and three others had non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.
Police later said that a woman died at an area hospital. On Wednesday, she was identified by police as 33-year-old Crystal McAlpin of High Ridge, Missouri.
In the Wednesday update, police said all other people injured in the crash were in stable condition.
A 5 On Your Side crew saw first responders on the scene.
