GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – One person has died in a crash that closed down a major highway just outside of Greenville late this morning.
The crash shut down all lanes of Greenville Boulevard in front of Parkers Chapel Church. The highway has since reopened.
It involved a pickup truck that landed on its top, a car on its side, and another with heavy front-end damage.
Greenville Fire-Rescue says one of their engines was there right when the crash happened. They say five people were injured, two with serious injuries. One person in one of the cars was trapped inside for about 10 minutes.
Sgt. Brad Taylor with the Highway Patrol tells WITN that the pickup truck and a car were headed north when the two made contact. Both vehicles went through the grass median and hit the other car which was heading south.
Sgt. Taylor said one person died in the crash while there are two other people severely injured. He said speed could have been a factor in the crash and a Highway Patrol team is now reconstructing the accident.
