Traffic lurched forward after a crash involving multiple vehicles left commuters on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Auburn at a standstill Thursday morning.
At around 7:18 a.m., Massachusetts State Police responded to a crash “with serious injuries” on the Mass. Pike’s eastbound side, according to Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio.
The left lane was reopened after all lanes were originally shut down, state police tweeted. Traffic was backed up for several miles, state police added.

Collision and crime scene units also responded to the site of the crash, Procopio said.
A MassLive editor who drove by the site of the accident said the crash was at mile marker 89 and involved a Mazda sedan and an SUV. Vehicles were also at a standstill at the Route 20 Connector.
