Milwaukee police offer safety tips after thieves steal warming cars – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The Milwaukee Police Department is warning residents to lock vehicles at all times, even when warming them up, after a rash of cars thefts.
“A cold car is better than no car!” the department tweeted this week.
Police officials say they’ve seen an uptick in stolen cars this week with plunging temperatures. In the past week, the department has received 118 reports of stolen cars, WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) reported.

The winter weather will continue as temperatures fall from the mid-teens late Friday, with low temperatures around zero and highs around 10 through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Sullivan.
The department released the following tips:
Police are asking anyone who is the victim of a car-related crime to report it immediately by calling 911 if it’s an emergency or (414) 933-4444.
