Lower Merion, PA (December 11, 2023) – Following a crash caused by a downed tree that closed eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 in Lower Merion, Pennsylvania, for several hours overnight Sunday, the roadway is back open Monday morning, and police are launching an investigation.
According to Montgomery County officials, a tree blew down near mile marker 335.4 on the Schuylkill Expressway, which is immediately east of Conshohocken, shortly before 10:30 p.m. Three vehicles collided in an effort to avoid the tree blocking the road, which shut down the highway for hours. It’s unclear whether the tree landed on any of the cars involved, however. Following the accident, at least one individual was taken to a nearby hospital, but their current condition is unknown. The Lower Merion Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation in the meantime.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.
Each year, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation records over 104,000 accidents within the state of Pennsylvania, resulting in injuries to more than 61,000 individuals.
Many accidents are entirely preventable. Acts of negligence continue to be the leading cause of accidental injuries or death in our state. In Pennsylvania, there are many common causes of car accidents. The most frequent are driving under the influence, exceeding speed limits, and not obeying red lights and stop signs at intersections. Other common causes include reckless driving, crossing the center line, and making an improper turn. Other causes can include poor weather conditions or vehicle defects.
It is important to remember that no matter what the cause of the accident, you may have legal options available to help you move forward. A Merion-area car accident lawyer can help you protect your legal rights in the aftermath of an accident.
In the event that you’ve experienced a car accident resulting in personal injury, it’s crucial to seek guidance from an experienced legal advocate as soon as possible. Pursuing a personal injury case can assist you in obtaining compensation to cover various losses and expenses, such as lost income, vehicle repair costs, medical bills, and more.
A personal injury lawyer will work to identify who was at fault for the traffic crash, review all applicable insurance policies to see if you are fully protected, help you build a strong case to prove that your damages were caused by the defendant, and take legal action against them.
