LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police are looking for a driver who fled the scene of a fatal crash on the Watterson Expressway Thursday afternoon.
According to LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis, the crash was reported on Interstate 264 West between Crittenden Drive and Southern Parkway around 3:45 p.m.
Police believe a vehicle was headed west on I-264 when they started changing lanes, according to witnesses. The vehicle hit another vehicle that was also headed westbound, causing the driver to lose control, rolling the vehicle several times.
The impact caused the adult driver, who was the only person in the car, to be ejected from the vehicle, Ellis said. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.
A third vehicle, also headed west at the same time, was also hit. The driver, a woman, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
Police said the driver they believe initially caused the crash failed to stop and render aid and fled from the scene.
Based on information from witnesses, police believe the vehicle in question is a tan-colored Sedan that was last seen exiting off of I-264 West onto 3rd Street.
LMPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the department’s anonymous Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously online through the Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
All lanes of the Watterson were closed for several hours. They were back open around 7 p.m. Thursday.
