Livermore 3-Car Accident Kills 1: CHP | Livermore, CA Patch – Patch

LIVERMORE, CA — One person was killed Saturday night in Livermore in a three-car accident, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 8:46 p.m. Saturday, CHP officers responded to calls of five cars drag racing on North Livermore Avenue between Manning and May School roads, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn. Officers observed three speeding vehicles traveling southbound on North Livermore Avenue, but eventually lost sight of them. Officers approached I-580, and observed a crash at the intersection of the freeway and North Livermore Avenue.
A subsequent investigation found that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro were stopped at a red light in the left-turn lane, about to turn onto I-580 westbound. After the light turned green and both cars were making the turn, a 2006 Acura RL ran a red light and sped through. The Acura collided with both cars, but continued racing through the intersection and hit a traffic pole. The pole fell onto the Acura and hit the driver, resulting in a fatal injury.
The other two cars were checked on scene, and both drivers declined transport to the hospital, Hahn said. The Camaro was moderately damaged and the Hyundai received minor damage.
The southbound and northbound lanes of North Livermore Avenue remained open, and there was “minimal” effect on traffic.
The name of the victim was not released.
