LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) – Update: A young man loses his life following an accident on Loop 20 early Wednesday morning.
Laredo Police have identified the victim as 22-year-old Christian Victor Cantu.
According to police, Cantu was traveling south on Loop 20 in a white Chevy Cruze and at some point, lost control of his vehicle causing it to rollover multiple times near Havana Drive in front of Pla-Mor.
Investigator Joe Baeza said the new information comes after reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses as well as other pieces of evidence.
“At this point, it was not an attempt to avoid an accident like we initially had thought, but instead the white Chevy had someone at one-point lost control of the vehicle,” said Baeza. “The driver, the person who passed was regrettably not wearing a seatbelt according to the ongoing investigation and was not ejected but was removed from the vehicle by EMT so we confirmed that as well.”
After the rollover, a second accident involving a street sweeper and a black vehicle occurred near the same area.
Police say the street sweeper exited the loop and was merging towards the access road, which is when it collided with a black Honda.
The victim in that accident was taken to a hospital and she was later released.
