Lakeland mother, 2 children killed Monday evening in Kathleen … – The Ledger

LAKELAND — A Lakeland mother and two of her children were killed in a fatal accident Monday evening on Kathleen Road.
Mavaria Carter, 33, of Lakeland and two of her children, a 6-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy, died in a two-vehicle crash on Kathleen Road near Quincy Street, just south of the Memorial Boulevard overpass. Two other family members remain in critical condition.
The Lakeland Police Department responded to the crash at 7:46 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of Kathleen Road.
Jeremy Felton, 30, of Lakeland was driving a 2015 red Cadillac SUV south on Kathleen Road when he entered the left turn lane looking to turn onto Quincy Road, according to police.
Lakeland resident Jeremiah Rivera, 20, was driving a 2016 black Dodge Challenger north on Kathleen Road in the outside lane. Felton began making a left turn, according to police, and crossed in front of the Challenger and the vehicles collided.
The Cadillac with five passengers spun to the northeast and struck a utility pole before coming to rest. Felton and three children in the Cadillac were ejected, police said. Rivera brought the Challenger to a stop on a grassy area to the east side of Kathleen Road, just north of the Cadillac.
Officers said it appears both drivers and the three children in the Cadillac were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
