The Kenner Police Department is investigating after several businesses were damaged Tuesday when they say a 78-year-old man crashed his car.
According to police, the man was trying to park in front of Babin Physical Therapy for an appointment but sped forward.
He damaged a column in front of Babin Therapy. When he tried to back up, police say he jumped a curb and crashed into the Optical shop.
Police say they were able to stop the man once he tried to drive forward and leave the parking lot.
Robert Boover has owned the Optical Shop on West Esplanade in Kenner for 28 years. He thought today would be another day like any other, but he’s shell shocked at this incident that’s left his business in ruins.
“Looks like a bomb went off in the place but it was actually a little small car that destroyed the place,” Boover said.
“Obviously he panicked, so it would’ve been nice if he would’ve stayed but Kenner police caught him,” Boover said. “So everything is going to go though the system now, and he didn’t get away. I think he just panicked.”
No one was injured, and police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Kenner Police said the man was disoriented, he couldn’t answer a lot of basic questions, so they will determine whether his health played role.
