Kane County officials ID'd the deputy critically hurt in a head-on crash.
HAMPSHIRE TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) — A Kane County sheriff's deputy was critically injured in a head-on crash in Hampshire Township Monday morning, the sheriff's office said.
The on-duty deputy was in a squad car heading south on Illinois Route 47 when it was struck head-on by a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was towing a trailer with landscaping equipment, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office said the pickup truck was initially heading north on Illinois Route 47 when it stopped and then came into oncoming traffic, hitting the sheriff's deputy's squad car a little before 7 a.m.
The deputy was transported by helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition, the sheriff's office said.
Kane County has identified the deputy as Brian Anderson, who is 33 years old and has been with the department for less than a year.
He previously served as a police officer in the northwest suburbs.
He was stable later Monday with serious leg injuries.

Three people were inside the Dodge pickup truck at the time of the crash, and at least one of them was transported to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.
Kane County officials identified the driver of the landscape vehicle as Indalecio Munoz of Marseilles.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. Troopers looked over what was left of the two vehicles in the wreckage Monday.
Neighbors heard the collision.
"All of a sudden I just heard a loud bang, sounded like an explosion," neighbor Carol Potuznik said.
Neighbors said there is quite a bit of traffic on weekday mornings along this section of Route 47.
"People drive a little too fast. And I've seen a lot of crazy stuff out here as far as people passing where they shouldn't," Potuznik said.
No charges had been filed later Monday.
