One person is dead and four others had to be taken to the hospital following a crash in Statesboro on Tuesday.
The crash happened at around 2:20 p.m. on the Highway 301 Bypass (Veterans Memorial Parkway) at Jones Mill Road, according to Georgia State Patrol.
GSP said the driver of a Nissan was headed west on Jones Mill Road and was attempting to cross the Bypass when they were hit by the driver of a Cadillac headed southbound.
One child was thrown from the Nissan. A second child was trapped, according to GSP.
GSP said both children were taken to the hospital by air in critical condition. Investigators said neither child was restrained in any type of child seat.
The driver of the Nissan died at the scene. EMS took the driver and child in the Cadillac to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The Georgia 73 Bypass was closed for approximately 2 hours, according to GSP.
