NEW CITY, NY — One person died in a two-car crash on Route 304 in New City Friday morning, according to Clarkstown police.
Police were called to Route 304 near East Phillips Hill Road at about 11:50 a.m. The first arriving officer found two heavily damaged vehicles. One, a Hyundai Elantra, was in the middle of Route 304. The other, a Toyota Highlander, was off in a wooded area next to the northbound lanes of Route 304.
The New City Fire Engine Co performed an extrication on the Toyota Highlander in order to remove the two occupants. They were treated by New City Ambulance, Congers Ambulance and
Rockland Paramedics before being transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further information will be released until the proper notifications are made, police said.
The Clarkstown Police Department Accident Investigation Team was on scene and performing their investigation, which was expected to close Route 304 from East Phillips Hill Rd to Squadron Boulevard in both directions for several hours.
