One man was killed and two others hurt in a crash in Placer County early Tuesday morning following an earlier shooting, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, said the shooting and crash stemmed from a dispute between three people: a female against a man and another female. The relationship between the three is unknown.
“We’re still not sure what happened, what led up to it. We’re really not even sure what the relation is. We’re still trying to gather a lot of that from witness statements and other folks,” Gandhi said.
After the dispute, Gandhi said the female drove off and was being chased by the man and another female. At some point during the chase, the male fired a weapon at least once toward the car, but no one was hit.
The chase continued before both vehicles crashed in Placer County at PFE Road and Walerga Road early Tuesday morning, Gandhi said. Deputies do not believe the gunshot led to the crash.
KCRA 3 reached out to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash, to learn more about what might have specifically caused the crash. CHP was not able to provide an answer as of Tuesday night.
It is unknown when and where the shooting happened, but Gandhi said the general area is northern Sacramento County. Two firearms were also recovered at the scene.
The man died who was in the car with the other female. His identity has not been released. Because he died in Placer County, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office will handle the coroner case. The two women were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
There have not been any arrests.
