Student athlete killed in crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Creekside High School graduate was killed in Duval’s 65th traffic fatality of the year Tuesday morning. His name was Trenton Stewart. The community of Creekside is in a state of disbelief, grief and mourning as the accident that killed him happened less than 48 hours ago.

His mom, Mandy Zook-Stewart, said that Trenton was out working before he was killed. His parents and coaches say that was one of the greatest qualities about him, along with his caring demeanor and dedication to his responsibilities. They say his work ethic was unmatched.

“Everything that he did he wanted to be better, every day he worked harder that anyone I’ve ever known. He pushed himself both physically and mentally every day,” Trenton’s father, Robert Stewart said.
Robert added that his son was a leader and that he was level-headed, determined and took direction well as a son. He says that Trenton exemplified everything that parents want from young adults in their community.
“He didn’t let things get to him personally, he was very caring and loving with other people when they are going through things regardless of their age; he was just an amazing young man,” Robert said.
Trenton was a 2022 graduate of Creekside High School where he put his strong work ethic to use both in the classroom and on the football field where he played defensive line.

“God helps those who help themselves, and Trenton Stewart was the embodiment of that,” Creekside High School football head coach Sean McIntyre said. “That young man wanted to play high school football at a high level, and he did everything it took to do that. He wanted to be a great student and he did everything it took to do that. He wanted to play college football, and he did everything he could to do that.”
Trenton’s death has sent shockwaves from St. Johns County, down to Deland, Florida at Stetson University where he had just finished his freshman year on the football team.
“He was an ambassador for our program, and for the university, the entire community is saddened by his loss,” Stetson football head coach Brian Young said. “Our hearts go out to his family and everybody that knew him here. From a team standpoint, we lost a brother.”

Trenton’s parents want to honor their son by giving back to the community that helped raise him, so they have created the “Trenton Stewart scholarship fund.”
