A man accused of crashing a Tesla into a Putnam County convenience store was at a nearby bar prior to the incident, court records said.
Brandon Eugene Ferrari, 34, is charged with driving under the influence, destruction of property, leaving the scene of an accident and obstructing an officer, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.
Deputies said Ferrari was taken into custody Wednesday after a Tesla crashed into a Par Mar store in the 2000 block of Winfield Road.
Ferrari is accused of getting out of the vehicle and taking off into the woods behind the store shortly after the incident, the complaint said. Witnesses said a passenger in the vehicle got out and walked back to a nearby bar.
When deputies spoke to witnesses at the bar, they identified the driver of the vehicle as Ferrari, who had been in the bar earlier in the night.
Deputies said they later spotted Ferrari walking along Teays Valley Road where he appeared to have droopy eyelids, bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and trouble standing, the complaint said.
When deputies attempted to take him into custody, they accused Ferrari of keeping his hands in his pockets and resisting arrest, the complaint said.
