Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday night, an Inyokern man and Tarzana woman sustained major injuries in a car accident that also killed a Las Vegas, Nev., man.
At 8:21 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers from the Bishop Communication Center responded to a call from the Ridgecrest Police Department advising them that one of their employees had located a multi-vehicle traffic accident which resulted in major injuries on State Route 14 at mile marker 47 near Inyokern.
According to a CHP news release, Eligio Gonzalez, 52, of Inyokern, was driving northbound in a 2016 Ford F-250 when his vehicle veered left across the painted solid yellow barrier and side-swiped a 2016 Kenworth truck/tractor pulling a 2016 enclosed Wabash trailer driven by Marisol Aguirre, 48, of Southgate.
A 2023 Mazda CX-50 that was also traveling southbound behind the 2016 Kenworth was then hit head-on by the 2016 Ford F-250 as it continued out of control in a northerly direction.
One occupant inside the Mazda, Jocelyn Brown, 30, of Tarzana, sustained major injuries. The driver, Darren Keith Westby, 29, of Las Vegas, Nev., was killed in the accident.
According to CHP, alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the cause of this crash.
State Route 14 was closed in both directions for approximately six hours to facilitate the on-scene investigation and vehicle recoveries.
