Crews have cleared a cable car that blocked a San Francisco intersection after the operator engaged an emergency brake to avoid a collision on Monday afternoon.

Six passengers suffered minor injuries when the cable car came to an abrupt halt on a steep hill to avoid hitting a vehicle at the intersection in San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood, fire officials said.
The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. as the cable car was headed down Washington Street, approaching the intersection of Taylor Street, Lt. Mariano Elias said.
After the sudden braking, passengers aboard the car lunged forward at the abrupt stop.
Medical crews evaluated 14 people at the scene and six were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The cable car became stuck when when a section of the braking system got lodged into the track. It was removed a short time later, Elias said.
