Local police and Essex County authorities are investigating a pedestrian accident on Friday night that resulted in the death of a Bloomfield woman.
Emergency responders to reports of a pedestrian-vehicle collision at 7:25 p.m. at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Grove Street. They found Nelly Fernandez and transported her to University Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead, according to a statement issued Saturday by acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II and Bloomfield Police Chief George Ricci.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained on the scene, authorities said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau is investigating. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 877-TIPS-4EC or 877-847-7432. Calls will be kept confidential.
