Black Ice Triggers 18-Vehicle Pileup on New York Highway – NBC New York

More than a dozen vehicles were involved in a crash that shut down a highway in New York’s Orange County Monday morning and injured eight people, authorities say.
Black ice was to blame for the 6:15 a.m. crash on Route 9W, near Fort Montgomery. Police later said a total of 18 vehicles were involved. Chopper 4 was over the scene.
Multiple emergency crews were evident at the scene. One vehicle appeared wedged atop another.
Three of the eight people who were hurt were taken to hospitals, while the others injured were treated at the scene. All are expected to be OK.
The highway reopened after less than two hours. The investigation is ongoing.
