A470 LIVE updates as crash shuts road with 'heavy traffic' building – North Wales Live

The route is shut at Betws-Y-Coed in Conwy
A crash has shut one of the main roads through the Conwy Valley. The A470 has been closed and motorists have been urged to find an alternative route.
"Heavy traffic" is building up at the scene according to North Wales Police. The crash happened on the A470 in the village of Betws-Y-Coed Conwy on Saturday afternoon (May 13).
In a statement posted at around 1.40pm, a spokesman for North Wales Police said: "Due to a road traffic collision on the A470 Betws -Y- Coed the road will be closed for some time – heavy traffic is building please find an alternative route.

The traffic website Inrix is reporting that the A470 between Zip World Fforest and Lon Muriau near Betws-y-Coed has now been fully re-opened.
Emergency services were at the scene for up to six hours today following the incident at about 1pm.
The northbound lane was re-opened earlier this evening and a short time ago the southbound lane has also been cleared.
Traffic is getting back to normal.
We have to report that a motorcyclist has sadly died following today's accident on the A470 near Betws-y-Coed.
His bike was in collison with a Citroen Berlingo soon after 1pm today.

Meanwhile, one lane of the A55 at Penmaenbach is closed due to a broken down crane.
Motorists are urged to proceed with care.
A stretch of the A470 road near Betws-y-Coed remains closed after a road accident this afternoon.
Emergency crews were called at about 1pm.
North Wales Police have posted an update on their Facebook page: "Due to a road traffic collision on the A470 Betws -Y- Coed the road will be closed for some time – heavy traffic is building please find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience."
The crash happened on the main road between Lon Muriau and Zip World Fforest.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service says it was not called out to this afternoon's incident on the A470.
We are trying to find out more about the accident which happened at about 1pm and will update you as soon as we have more details.
Elsewhere, one lane of the A55 is closed due to a broken down crane on the eastbound carriageway near Junction 17 at Conwy Morfa. Traffic is coping well.
The traffic website Inrix says there is congestion to the A5 eastbound, near Pont-y-Pair Bridge.
Emergency services are advising people to find an alternative route.
The Welsh Ambulance Service are telling me that it was alerted at 1.07pm today to an incident on the A470 which is still ongoing.
A spokesman said they have sent one ambulance and a rapid response vehicle while the incident is being overseen by a duty operational manager.
A Welsh Air Ambulance crew have also been scrambled.

Drivers are urged to find an alternative route.

There are limited options of course but if you're travelling to Betws-y-Coed you could take the A55 and A5 through Bethesda.
