A six-car crash that closed several lanes of I-95 south as rush hour was starting Wednesday afternoon near Newark has been cleared.
State officials have provided few details about the crash, which at one point had the interstate’s southbound lanes closed just past the Chapel Street overpass.
Shortly after the Delaware Department of Transportation issued an alert at 3:43 p.m., first responders could be seen heading toward the construction zone where the state is working on the I-95 and Route 896 interchange.
When first responders opened the left lane to allow motorists to pass, six cars were seen spread across multiple lanes at the site of the crash.
Vehicles attempting to drive past that crash had to pass on the far left lane, get into the inner left lane, then maneuver left before passing the crashed cars.
DelDOT advised drivers to use caution and expect delays.
DelDOT posted another message on social media at about 6:30 p.m. saying the crash had been cleared.
