SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says a 4-year-old child has died in an afternoon car accident near Lennox.
Investigators say a 14-year-old male was driving a 2013 GMC Yukon that for a yet-to-be-established reason went into a ditch near the intersection of 274th Street and Highway 17. After going into the ditch the vehicle rolled and landed on its roof.
The 14-year-old male was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. Three other people were in the vehicle; a 10-year-old girl, a 6-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old boy. The two girls received injuries. The 4-year-old boy died. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the 4-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The 10-year-old girl was wearing a seatbelt. Investigators don’t yet know if the 6-year-old was wearing one or not.
This accident remains under investigation.
