A 20-year-old Seville woman was killed Monday and another driver suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision in western Volusia County that also involved a third vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 20-year-old woman was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu north on U.S. Highway 17 approaching Prevatt Road just north of Seville at about 8:12 a.m., according to FHP. A 48-year-old Crescent City man was driving a 2018 Ford Fusion south on the highway.
The 20-year-old failed to negotiate a curve for unknown reasons, ran off the road, overcorrected and entered the southbound lanes, FHP stated.
The front of her Malibu collided with the Ford.
A 37-year-old Satsuma woman driving a 2019 Kia Forte south on U.S. 17 was unable to avoid the wreck and struck the rear of the Fusion, FHP stated.
The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver was flown to a hospital suffering serious injuries.
The 39-year-old woman was not transported for treatment and remained at the scene, FHP stated.
The crash remains under investigation.
All three drivers were wearing their seatbelts, FHP stated.
