JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office held a briefing in front of police headquarters to talk about what might have caused today’s I-95 crash.
A spokesperson for JSO’s homicide unit said that at around 3:30 p.m. police responded to I-95 northbound on the Trout River Bridge from calls reporting gunshots fired at a vehicle.
When police arrived they found a car that rear-ended a semi-truck that had broken down on the shoulder of the bridge. Officers said that the car did appear to have been struck by gunfire. One person, a man in his 20s, was the only person in the car and police said he died at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, all lanes have opened up and traffic is flowing normally.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said one person is dead in a crash on Interstate 95 northbound near Zoo Parkway.
JFRD said the crash happened at the off-ramp to Zoo Parkway and involved a semi-truck and a green car.

Sources tell Action News Jax that shots were fired from one car at another. Those sources also say that the driver of one of the cars is dead and that car is totaled.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Zoo Parkway was closed at I-95 NB. Traffic was being diverted off of Edgewood Avenue to Main Street or Lem Turner Road due to police activity.
